Suspicious Powder Received at Correctional Institution Not Hazardous
Emergency responders have determined that a white powdery substance received this morning in an envelope at the Two Rivers Correctional Institution (TRCI) in Umatilla was not hazardous. Oregon State Police (OSP) is investigating if the envelope and powder content is associated with any crime.
Around 10:30 this morning, the mail room at the institution reported receiving the envelope with an unknown substance. The mail room area was secured and a state hazardous materials unit and the Umatilla Fire Department responded to evaluate the powder for any hazardous substances. None of the four staff members who were in the mail room at the time the substance was found reported any adverse reactions.
The institution is operating as normal.
