Chiefs Eliminate Americans With 3-1 Win in Game Five
The Spokane Chiefs beat the Tri-City Americans 3-1 Saturday night in game five of the team's first round playoff series. As a result, Spokane wins the series 4-1.
The Chiefs scored the only goal of the first period on a deflection by Mike Aviani at the 14:04 mark. Aviani's deflection of a Brenden Kichton pass hit the left post and caromed in past Americans goaltender Troy Trombley.
Spokane made it 2-0 in the second on a power play goal by Kichton at 7:50 mark.
The gained some momentum midway through the third. Trobley stopped the Chiefs Alessio Bertaggia on a penalty shot at the 9:29 mark, and then Malte Stromwall made it a 2-1 game 1:09 later by beating the Chiefs' Eric Williams from the left hand face off circle.
Bertaggia then scored a valuable insurance goal with 4:51 left for the final result.
The Chiefs advance to the WHL Western Conference semis, while the Americans see their twenty-fifth anniversary season come to an end.
