Fight between two men results in death
21 year old Gage Rogers appeared before a Yakima County Court judge this afternoon.
Rogers was arrested last night after a fight led to the death of 45 year old Eric Taylor.
Maria Baez lives just down the street from where the homicide took place, and was speechless when she heard the news.
"There's too much hate, too much, there's no love," said Baez, "People are being raised with so much anger."
Police say it happened on the 1100 block of Cherry Avenue just before 10:30 p.m.
According to arrest documents, Rogers had gotten into a fight with Taylor, in the basement of a home, knocking him unconscious and repeatedly kicking him in the head and chest.
Witnesses were able to hold Rogers down until police arrived.
Taylor was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Police say they respond to a number of domestic violence calls on a weekly basis, they say this call was a little unusual because it was a male to male, and not a male to female, and because it was fatal.
Police were told Rogers and Taylor tend to get into fights whenever they are drinking, which was apparently the case in this homicide.
"There may be a history of when they drink too much together, they fight," said Captain Rod Light, "Obviously it's a similar scenario last night, unfortunately, it just had a bad ending this time."
"I'm sure that when this person woke up the next day, if he was under any types of drugs or alcohol, he probably thought 'oh shoot, what did I do?,' " Maria Baez.
A judge set Rogers bail at one million dollars, he will be arraigned in two weeks.
