Local Law Enforcement Honor Fallen Officers
Law enforcement agencies across our region take time this morning to honor those killed in the line of duty.
Dozens of officers in Yakima gathered to commemorate National Peace Officer Memorial Day.
Last year, 120 officers were killed in the line of duty -- those men and women's names were read in front of a supporting crowd.
On average, one law enforcement officer is killed every two days.
"We can't forget that, and the citizens need to be reminded on a daily basis, or continually, of the sacrifice that these officers and their families make to keep them safe," said Police Chief Dominic Rizzi.
Chief Rizzi says no Yakima Police officers have been killed in the line of duty.
