Dr. Jay Sloop

It's been almost 36 hours since the news struck the Sloop household.

"It's kind of difficult not knowing what's going on over there," said daughter-in-law, Linda Sloop, "We haven't had as much information as would be nice to have."

Some family members of Doctor Jay Sloop are in Ukraine, while some are back home, waiting anxiously for any information as to the whereabouts of the retired obstetrician -- who went missing during a morning walk in Kiev yesterday.

The 77 year old was in the middle of a 3-week mission trip with his church, and was supposed to come back to the states at the end of the week.

Since then,  the U.S. Embassy, State Department and FBI have all been notified of the man's disappearance.

And locally, the family has been receiving help from those who know doctor sloop.

"We know that Jay has had a big influence in this community with his OB/GYN practice for 36 years and with just his love for people," said Linda Sloop.

The family says there's been a huge outpouring since news of Dr. Sloop's disappearance was released.

Especially at his church, where members are doing everything they can to help the family during their time of need.

"Many people met with the family yesterday morning," said Nita Hinman, "Our pastor and another pastor met with them and prayed, there's only so much you can do."

For the Sloop family, those prayers are the one thing keeping their hopes alive.

"We're trusting in God and we're waiting for him to be found, alive," said Linda Sloop.

A prayer service will also be held tonight at the Seventh Day Adventist Church on 35th Avenue -- it will begin at 7:30.
