CWU Offering EdS Degree For Psych Majors

For the first time, Central Washington University is awarding degrees beyond the Master's level.

The university received approval from the state legislature this year to grant Education Specialist Degrees, or EdS, to students in the psychology department.

The degree is halfway between a Master's degree and a Doctorate, and improves a student's chance of being hired right after graduation.

"It means a lot being able to be recognized for the extra work that we do on top of what a Masters candidate would do," said CWU student, Rochelle Cikauskas, "It opens up the door for myself and my classmates to get paid better, be on a different pay schedule, and districts will recognize that, and other professionals [too]."

Seven psychology graduates will be receiving their EdS degrees during Central's commencement on June 8th.
