Troops overseas will be receiving nearly one thousand pounds of local kids' Halloween candy.

The Center for Dental Health in Richland offered local kids money for left over Halloween candy from trick-or-treating this year and Operation Thank You will pack it up in boxes to send overseas.

Dr. Lee Ostler started this charitable event 5 years ago.

He offers kids $1 for every pound of candy they bring in.

Operation Thank You will place the goodies into Christmas care packages for troops in Afghanistan.

One of the founders of the organization who is also a veteran says he is amazed children gave up their candy to help those fighting for our country.

The Columbia Sea Cadets also showed up to help carry the half a ton of sweet treats for our troops.
