Harlan Landing Murder Suspect in Court
Darren Wright is sitting in jail on $1 million bail after he appears in court this afternoon and creates quite the scene with the judge.
Darren Wright appeared before Judge Brian Sanderson this afternoon -- Wright is suspected of attacking 54 year old David Johnson earlier this week, which resulted in his death.
Sheriff's deputies say Wright admitted to attacking Johnson with a golf club following an argument about religion.
Johnson suffered a blow to the head, fracturing his skull.
While being assigned a public defender today, Wright interuppted the judge cursing at him and stating he wants to represent himself.
"Sir, you don't want me to appoint counsel?" asked Judge Sanderson.
"No," Wright answered.
"Sir, you are facing some very serious charges at this point," said Judge Sanderson.
"You have the greater sin, so I'm going to let you do what you have to do, but do it fast," answered Wright.
According to court records, Wright has been through the jail system multiple times.
He is a level three sex offender, with other convictions such as indecent liberties, third degree assault, and attacking a corrections officer.
"I'm not going to appoint counsel, because he's refused counsel at this time," said Judge Sanderson, "I'm not sure he's competent to make that decision."
"Why don't you just sentence me right now?" asked Wright.
We asked Wright's family, which was in attendance, to make a comment on the matter, however they declined an interview.
