Gifts for those in Need
Hundreds of children in Kittitas County will be receiving gifts this holiday season from Central Washington University.
It's part of the university's annual holiday gift project, where children in need can sign up and request certain items they may need for the holidays -- students and staff then select and sponsor one of those students, and provide the gift for them.
The school's athletics department also helps sponsor the nearly 200 children who signed up.
"It's amazing to me that giving doesn't happen just once, it happens repeatedly," said project coordinator Kelly Zakel-Larson, "People look forward to this program every year; they look forward to giving a gift to a child in their community and making Christmas brighter for someone else."
The gifts will be delivered to the children in the middle of December.
The school is coordinating that delivery with the local girl scouts.
