Benton Co. residents dispose of hazardous waste

Dozens of Benton County residents pack the parking lot of the Benton County Fairgrounds today to drop of hazardous waste.

The City of Kennewick and Benton County are partnering to help residents properly dispose of their unwanted household hazardous waste today and tomorrow.

Crews are accepting paints, solvents, cleaners, automotive fluids, pesticides and batteries.

However, they are not accepting electronics, tires, appliances, radioactive materials or trash.

Some residents dropping off items say they've been waiting a long time to get rid of their waste.

"It's 60 years of accumulative stuff my parents have put together, so yeah, there was a lot to clean out" said Kerry Pruwett, Richland resident.

Crews will be collecting waste on Saturday from 9 AM - 3 PM.

The free service is only for residents of Benton County.
