The victim, identified as Bernice Roberts, reported that she awoke to the sound of someone inside her residence.  When she walked into the living room she discovered a male, identified as James Braithwaite, sitting on her sofa which he had pushed up against the front door.  Roberts told Braithwaite to leave but he refused to do so.  Roberts attempted to exit the residence through the rear door but Braithwaite pushed her and held the door shut.

Roberts’ son, Jeffrey Mohl, was outside and heard the commotion.  Mohl tried to get into the apartment through the rear sliding glass door but Braithwaite held the door shut to prevent Mohl from entering.  Braithwaite then fled out the front door with Mohl following him.  Mohl was able to call 911 and give officers a description and direction that Braithwaite was last seen going.

Kennewick Police officers arrived in the area and located Braithwaite at the Rocket Mart at Canal Dr. and Edison St.  Braithwaite was arrested without further incident.  Braithwaite was booked into the Benton County Jail for burglary 1st degree.
