Helping the Needy

Dozens of families and individuals in need gather in Ellensburg for an annual community event.

It's part of the Community Connect Day, those without a permanent address got the chance to receive free health screenings, food and supplies, while being directed to services they can use to help them get back on their feet.

The event is put on by the Homeless and Affordable Housing Network of Kittitas County.

One man who was formerly homeless says the event has helped reinsert himself back into society.

"We need help, and that's what it boils down to, we just need a lot of help sometimes," said Jack Frost, "We need to take advantage of these services, and the bus service in town, that's free. I'm truly grateful for those sorts of opportunities"

The event ran all morning and into the late afternoon.

People are still encouraged to stop by if they need assistance.
