Dozens of young women are in Ellensburg this weekend competing for the title of Miss Rodeo Washington.

Ellensburg is hosting the annual event at the rodeo grounds, where contestant will compete in horsemanship displays, speech competitions, and fashion shows.

Last year's Miss Rodeo Washington winner, Jessie Tennant, is at the competition, digging her heels in before she heads off to the national competition in Las Vegas at the end of the year.

"There's so much preparation that goes into being a rodeo queen and running for one of these competitions; we have lots of rodeo knowledge we have to be familiar with and well versed in, horse science knowledge, current events, we take written exams, we go through two different interviews, and we're assessed in our public speaking," said Tennant, "All of that plays a large part in preparing for a Miss Rodeo Pageant."

This year's miss rodeo queen will be crowned tomorrow afternoon.
