The thousands of furlough notices that were expected to start going out today due to the government shutdown are now on hold, as a deal to end the shutdown is being worked out in Congress.

Yesterday, Gary Petersen, VP of Hanford Programs with TRIDEC, told us 9,000 workers at Hanford and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory may receive furlough notices today.

But because Congress is now working out a new deal to end the federal shutdown, Petersen says nobody has received a furlough notice.

He says he is hopeful Congress will pass a deal tonight, and he says if they do and if nobody is furloughed, our community will have dodged a huge bullet.
