Firefighters in Richland are doing their part to make sure kids stay warm this winter.

The Richland Fire Department used it's own money to purchase nearly 100 coats for students at Jefferson Elementary School on George Washington Way.

Nearly a dozen firefighters came out to the school to personally hand out the coats, each kid was able to choose their favorite color and get fitted for the perfect coat.

After contacting local schools to find out how many kids needed coats this winter, the fire department worked for nearly 4 months to make it all happen.

The cost on the all American-made coats is more than $3,000.
