Coroner determines cause of death in man who died in police custody
The Franklin County Coroner has completed his investigation on the death of 35-year-old Ismael Acevedo of Yakima who died while in the process of being arrested by Pasco Police on September 1st.
Coroner Dan Blasdel says the investigation determined that Mr. Acevedo died from accute cocaine and alcohol intoxication. The manner of death has been determined to be accidental.
Acevedo died on the corner of South 9th Avenue and B Street in Pasco.
Pasco police believe Acevedo was involved in a large fight outside the Golden Nugget Night Club on South 4th Avenue around 12:30 AM Sunday.
When officers went to investigate the fight, they spotted Acevedo a few blocks away, and they chased him on foot until they detained him on the corner of South 9th Avenue and B Street.
Police say while they were taking Acevedo into custody, they discovered he had stopped breathing.
