Possible Moratorium on Marijuana Related Business in Pasco
The Pasco City Council is expected to vote on a possible moratorium on producing, processing and selling legalized recreational marijuana within city limits in a workshop tonight.
Pasco City Manager Gary Crutchfield said despite news last week that the Department of Justice will not block state laws legalizing marijuana in Washington state and Colorado, the city still wants to move forward with the moratorium process to buy more time to develop local rules.
"That process is likely to consume the better part of 6 months, perhaps a bit more," said Crutchfield."Once we see what the state rules look like, which won't be available to us in final form until November."
City Council will also hold a public hearing October 7th to get the public's input on the matter.
According to City Community and Development Director Rick White, if the public disagrees with the councils decision, residents can file an intitiative to repeal the moratorium.
