Court of Appeals upholds 5 counts of murder against Vicente Ruiz
A man convicted of gunning down five men at a Pasco auto body shop back in 1987 will remain in prison despite an attempt to appeal the decision.
Today, the Washington State Court of Appeals upheld the five counts of aggravated first degree murder and one count of attempted first degree murder against Vicente Ruiz.
According to the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office, the Court of Appeals only addressed one issue raised by Ruiz in the court's published ruling.
In finding no other issues, the court stated, "it was a small part of a strong state's case", and upheld the ruling.
A Spokane County jury found Ruiz guilty of the crimes in December 2010.
He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
