Richland Police are investigating the city's 3rd homicide of year after a 32-year-old woman is found killed in her apartment last night.
34-year-old Lawrence Miller was arrested early this morning after walking into the Richland Police Department last night and telling officers he thought he may have killed his ex-girlfriend
Just after 11:30 last night Richland Police arrive at an apartment building on the 1100 block of Dos Palos Ct., minutes after revieving a call from a woman that children showed up to her door saying their mother was dead.
Police found Rebeca Vandeventer dead inside her apartment with multiple stab wounds to the chest.
One neighbor says she is shocked this took place right next to her apartment.
"It's kind of scary, we moved in here knowing it was a quiet area, nothing like this has ever happened anywhere close to where I've ever lived so it's kind of scary," said Amy Meredith.
While officers were on the scene, they recieved a call from Miller, who was in the police department's lobby claming to have just killed his girlfriend and wanted to turn himself in.
Court records show Miller admits that he stabbed Vandeventer with a steak knife because he was upset she had a new boyfriend.
Vandeventer's relationship status on Facebook indicates she started a new relationship in late August.
Miller appeared in court this afternoon, he is on a 72-hour-hold without bail until prosecutors file formal charges against him.
Vandeventer's three children ages 2, 4, and 8 are with family members.
Miller is not the father of any of the children.
The Benton County Cononers Office will conduct an autopsy tomorrow morning and all that information will be handed over to the prosecutor before formal charges are filed.
Based on the 72-hour-hold, the prosecutor's office has until Monday to officially charge Miller.
