Walla Walla Police have arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly beating and robbing a man at a retirement home on Saturday evening.

Police report Jason H. Beeman was arrested following an assault inside the entryway at the Affinity retirement apartments on 1706 Fairway Drive.

Officers say they responded to the call of a suspect trying to enter the building through a back door and then entering through the front door.

The first police officer on the scene says he observed Beeman punching a 56-year-old man after the victim had fallen down as he was trying to get away from him.

The assault took place after Beeman allegedly demanded money from the victim.

The victim, a recovering stroke patient with limited mobility, sustained minor injuries.

Just prior to the assault at the apartments, Beeman had allegedly been next door at Applebee’s where he handed a note to an employee demanding money and threatening to kill the employee.

Beeman is being held on probable cause for burglary in the 1st degree, robbery in the 1st degree, assault 2nd degree, and a count of assault 3rd degree after spitting at a police officer and a jail officer.

He is also being held on one count of Harassment for the demand note at Applebee’s.
