Baseball Returning to Yakima

It looks like baseball is coming back to the City of Yakima next June.

Pacific Baseball Bentures made the announcement during a news conference today.

The organization says the team will play in the West Coast League, a wood-bat summer league for college athletes.

Games will be held at the Yakima County Stadium, the former home of the Minor League team, the Bears, who relocated to Hillsboro last year.

Pacific Baseball Ventures Vice President Zachary Fraser says the team will focus on attracting both long-term and local players.

"We can bring those guys back here; ss opposed to waiting and hoping that they get picked up by a major league team and hoping that it's one of the 8 teams that's in the Northwest League," sid Fraser, "We can grab the best of both worlds; the top level, top flight collegiate talent with some local flair."

Fraser says the organization will host an online voting contest later this week, where fans can choose to name the team either the Cascaders, the Sun Rays, the Red Tails, or the Short Hops.
