Stolen Car in Walla Walla Recovered, Suspect Arrested

A vehicle reported stolen near a work site in Walla Walla yesterday morning is recovered in less than an hour after police officers find it parked at a grocery store.

The victim, a construction worker, reported that his 1996 Ford Crown Victoria was stolen from the area of Washington Park on Cayuse Street just before noon.  After the victim and officers received calls from various individuals they had seen the car, officers later found the vehicle parked and unoccupied at a grocery store at 5th and Rose Street.

Officers entered the Carniceria La Barata grocery store and arrested the driver, 31-year-old Hugo Martinez-Ramirez.

The vehicle has been returned to the owner, however, a construction laser valued at $8,000 has not been recovered.  It is described as a Topcon Dual-Slope laser in a yellow case.

Martinez-Ramirez was lodged at the Walla Walla County Jail for one count of possession of stolen property first degree.
