West Nile Virus Found in Mosquitoes in Franklin County
A 5th pool of mosquitoes tests positive for West Nile virus just north of Basin City.
The Franklin County Mosquito Control District sets up traps at different locations to collect groups of mosquitoes, they are then brought into a lab and tested.
The mosquitoes found are Culex mosquitoes which serve as vectors for West Nile virus.
Throughout this season, 2 pools tested positive northwest of Franklin County, 2 other pools tested positive just northwest of Basin City and the most recent positive testing was just northeast of Basin City.
Experst recommend wearing long sleeve shirts and pants, as well as insect repellent when outdoors.
