Middle and high school students prepare for higher education
Dozens of middle and high school students from across the Tri-Cities meet at Washington State University Tri-Cities today to prepare for a higher education.
This morning, nearly 70 students worked in groups to solve fun mathematical and scientific challenges.
Some groups had to create a table with newspapers and books, others worked to create a zip-line out of cups, washers, straws and tape.
Students say these challenges help them work together, and working on a college campus gets them mentally prepared to continue their education.
"There's a group over there, how they're in college and studying and doing study groups, and this is a way, it's not maybe studying for college classes, but it still teaches you to work together" said Madisyn Wright, Finley Middle School student.
This event is part of national GEAR UP week.
GEAR UP is a program designed to help prepare students for college.
