The city of Pasco will soon have a new STEM school.

A ground breaking ceremoney was held today for the new Marie Curie STEM Elementary School on California Ave.

The new 70,000 sq. ft. building will house with 34 classrooms.

The capacity will be capped at 750 students grades 4 through 6.

It's located right next door to Whittier Elemtary School and both schools will share a playground.

The school's principal, Valerie Aragon, said STEM education is necessary for children in this community to keep up with fast moving technology.

"Stem education is really important because it's really about the integration of all contents in making sure students are prepared to meet the science and technological demands of our world and it's a very innovative approach to ensure our kids are going to be successful in the future," said Aragon.

The total cost for the new school is nearly $25,000,000.
