Authorities Targeting Unsafe Drivers
Authorities in Umatilla County and across the state of Oregon are teaming up to crack down on unsafe motorists and their passengers.
From February 10 through the 23, extra officers will be on the lookout for those who are unbuckled.
Texting and speeding will also be on officer's radars.
Transportation officials say seat belts reduces fatality risk by 45 to 60%.
Properly used child seats also reduce the fatality risk for infants under one by 71 % and toddlers ages one to four by 54%.
Still, 31% or 61 of Oregon's 198 occupant fatalities in 2012 were reportedly unrestrained.
Funding for the "Click It or Ticket" emphasis campaign was made possible by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
