Local entrepreneurs launch a new business to produce more comfortable jeans for horseback riders.

Eric and Desiree Johnson of Kennewick have been living here for ten years and are now looking for a new way to make a living.

They hope to do so through Smooth Stride jeans.

Desiree has been riding horses her entire life and said riding in regular jeans is painful because of the seam going down the inside of the legs she says specifically designed riding pants aren't appropriate for everyday use, so she she searched around and found Smooth Stride, which made a more comfortable riding jean.

However, that company was out of the country and going out of business.

The Johnsons bought the company, and are now making and marketing the jeans stateside.

Eric said with there being a big horse back riding community here in eastern Washington, these jeans are almost a necessity in our area.

"We found this market need that is not bring filled and it looks like a way for us to stay in the area and make a living and provide a good product," said Eric.

"I'm a horse woman and it's my goal in life to stay with my horses and this is right down my alley," said Desiree.

The couple has already engaged some groups of local and hopes to get all riders in the Tri-Cities wearing their jeans.

They are currently trying to build a list of investors through an online outreach.

How big the company becomes, will depend somewhat on how successful that outreach is.
