One Kennewick teen will have the opportunity to shape teen programs across the country.

14-year-old Monyae Rizzuto is one of ten teens across the country selected to serve on the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s 2014 National Teen Advisory Council.

Monyae will participate in conference calls throughout the year with staff members from the national organization to review program materials for teenagers.

Monyae said he is honored because he's gone through some difficult times in life and the number one thing kids need at this age is just to be around their peers and discuss their problems.

"I think just talking really helps," said Monyae. "When I was going through those thing, all I wanted to do was talk, so these kids just need someone to be there for them."

He will also participate in special focus groups, and give staff members more insight into the teenage mind and today's teenage culture. Monyae’s thoughts and feedback will play a large role in creating and fine-tuning teen programs in the future.
