Members of the community attend the official ribbon cutting ceremony for Washington State University Tri-Cities new nursing center.

More than 100 nursing students are using the new facility this semester.

Speakers thanked all donors, including Kadlec Regional Medical Center, which agreed to lease the 10,000 sq. ft. facility for $1 per year, which is basically a $2.5 million donation.

The new center has four classrooms with video conferencing equipment, a practice lab and two simulated labs.

One nursing students said he hopes to travel the world with the knowledge he is gaining here.

"It's reall special to use nursing as a vessel to be able to go anywhere in the world and gain perspective and change somebody's life," James Zachary.

The school says with a high demand for nurse practitioners in the world of healthcare right now, it hopes for more students to be able to come through this program and be prepared for a position in the field.
