Senior BBQ and Dixieland Swing Dance
The Richland Seniors Association held it's first summer BBQ and swing dance on Sunday at the Richland Community Center.
Volunteers served up hot dogs and burgers as old and young alike swung to the tunes of the Tri-Cities Stompers.
Proceeds from the event will go to the Richland Community Center.
The band was made up of members of the Tri-Cities Jazz Society, which was founded in 1980.
Society President Stan Pitman says swing dancing is not just for those who lived through that era.
"There's a group of younger people a lot of high school students and younger college students who do the Lindy Hop and more physically aerobic sort of exercise dances that that the seniors mostly don't do as much, and it's really fun to see. It's kind of a resurgence in that type of swing dancing and I hope it takes off."
The Richland Seniors Association holds dances the third Friday of each month at the Community Center.
The Jazz Society plays each month at the Pasco Eagles.
