Sales Tax Increase Heads to Ballot
Benton County Commissioners approve a sales tax increase ballot proposal that would go towards criminal justice.
Commissioner Shon Small said the proposed tax will use a collective approach in trying to assist Benton County to maintain some of the specialty law enforcement positions like gang task force, metro task force and the prosecutors office.
If passed by voters, a person shopping in the county would pay three cents on a $10 purchase.
The tax could bring in more than $9 million a year for law enforcement, legal and judicial personnel and programs for overall public safety and mental health.
The measure will be on the primary election ballot in August.
