The long awaited, highly anticpated Carousel of Dreams is finally going to be open to the public this weekend at the Southridge Sports Complex in Kennewick.

It will make its big debut Friday.

"There's probably been two or 300 eyeballs on the glass everyday over the last several weeks," said Eric Van Winkle, chairman of the Three Rivers Carousel Foundation board. "They want to see their tile or a specific horse; everybody has something special that a carousel means to them, so it's very personal."

Members of the public can adopt a horse from between $15,000 and $35,000 and sponsored tiles go from between $200 and $1000.

The money will go toward paying the remaining debt of the $3.7 million carousel, which is almost completely paid off.

The non-profit facility has a banquet area for private parties to rent out.

There is also a concession stand and an outdoor patio will soon be added.

Mike Thornton, who carved the cougar on the carousel said he almost can't believe the opening has finally come.

"We are extremely excited, we've been working at this for almost 13 years," said Thornton. "We think we put together a world-class carousel and a world-class building and we think we're starting a legacy for our community."

-Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
