WALLA WALLA -- H1N1 VACCINE FOR WALLA WALLA COUNTY:
A limited number of doses of H1N1 vaccine are now available in Walla Walla County. Today, Thursday October 22 beginning at 7 AM, H1N1 vaccine will be administered at the Flu Shot Roundup in the Community Building at the fairgrounds ONLY to those in the priority groups identified by the CDC:
1. Pregnant women
2. Family members and caregivers of children less than 6 months of age
3. Healthcare workers
4. Individuals between six months and 24 years of age
5. Individuals between 25 and 64 years of age with medical conditions that put them at higher risk for influenza-related complications
Two forms of vaccine are available today: injectible, containing preservative which can be given to those 6 months of age and up or nasal for those from 2 through 49 years of age.
It is imperative for the health and safety of our community to first vaccinate those at highest risk for serious complications from H1N1 and those at highest risk of contacting H1N1, as the CDC has recommended.
It is expected that eventually there will be adequate vaccine for all those wishing to be vaccinated against H1N1. As H1N1 vaccine supply improves, Walla Walla County Health Department will keep the community updated via their web-site www.co.walla-walla.wa.us and twitter.com/wwchd.
There is no charge for the H1N1 vaccine.
