PASCO -- The Tupper family from Pasco is on a mission.
Their objective: live healthy and stay safe.
"Kids, they're curious and they get in stuff they shouldn't and they can get hurt, so it's up to us to be informed so we can protect them" said Jerome Tupper, parent.
The family of four is one of dozens collecting personal health and safety information at Whittier Elementary School today.
They even got their blood pressure checked and the younger children learned about the importance of eating healthy.
"It makes you strong and go faster" said Ross Tupper, 1st grader.
According to America's Health Ranking, Washington's overall health status ranks 11th in the nation.
26% of residents are obese, and 13% of children live in poverty.
Local health experts are working to change these statistics, and believe being fit doesn't just benefit your body.
"Healthy kids are better students so we want to make sure that we give them the opportunity to help their families be as healthy as possible" said Kim Lovelace, School Nurse.
Children also played math and health related games at the school to motivate them to think more about their health.
But the Tuppers say much of the efforts to keep kids healthy and safe relies on the adults.
"We as parents need to take full advantage of it because our kids need as much as we can provide if not more" said Jerome.
