KENNEWICK -- Two teenagers are shot in Kennewick last night in what police believe was a gang related shooting.
"I was really scared for my own safety" said Ezekiel Sannoh, resident.
Within 24 hours of a shooting taking place at the Kamiakin Apartment Complex, some residents are making plans to move out.
"I think it's not too safe for the children around here. A bullet don't got an aim on it. It could always hit an innocent child, innocent bystander, what not like that. So in that aspect, I don't feel safe" said Anthony Wishard, resident.
Kennewick police say just after 11 PM last night, several gang members drove into the apartment complex and fired several rounds.
A 15 year-old from Mesa and 19 year-old from Pasco were shot.
Police say the victims and shooters are rival gang members.
"The things they shouted out from their car just prior to firing are things that rival gang members say to each other in a show of disrespect" said Sgt. Ken Lattin, Kennewick Police Department.
Lattin says violent crimes has gone up 31%.
He says the police department works with agencies throughout the region to combat gang violence because gangs don't stay in one place for very long.
"The particular apartment complex is not worse than anywhere else. This location is not the issue. It's rival gangs" said Lattin.
Many residents agree with Lattin, saying they feel safe at the complex and that yesterday's shooting was an unfortunate and isolated incident.
"I've lived here for almost 2 years now and that kind of stuff doesn't happen here most of the time in my opinion" said Geron Bergerson, resident.
One of the victims was taken to Kennewick General Hospital, the other was taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center.
Their injuries are not life threatening.
The suspects in the shooting have not been identified.
Police say they were driving a light colored SUV.
