After more than a decade on the east coast, mostly in New York City, Skyler Srivastava has returned to the west and a bit closer to her roots in British Columbia.
She received her master's degree from Fordham University and bachelor's from State University of New York. But the real "hard-core" training came from her two-year stint at the BC Institute of Technology.
"They broke us all down, one-by-one, the first year and then built us back up the second year. It's kind of like the military for journalism, and you never forget those lessons."
Skyler has been on the radio circuit most of the last 12 years. She was the executive producer of NPR's muliple award-winning show, Cityscape. She was also a news anchor, host and producer at many New York stations through her career including Sirius XM, Clear Channel Radio, Pamal Broadcasting, Cumulus Broadcasting, and the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. She wrote for several publications including politics in Albany, NY for the Legislative Gazette, and the arts scene for Arts Westchester.
Whether reporting on the elections or the disastrous Hurricane Sandy, producing a three-part segment on immigration or interviewing Hilary Clinton, her favorite part of the job is never knowing what the day will bring and working with the talented people that are part of the news team.
"Getting a chance to do television again is a gift. And the people here have been very welcoming and kind to me."
