BENTON CITY -- A parent however, called the Trouble Shooter saying the district would not let them.
You may recall that teacher Bob Mars was killed on Labor Day weekend in 2004.
Students wanted to remember him by wearing the letters M.S.P, which for many stood for "Mars Stands Proud."
The school district has concerns however, that those initials may have possible ties to gang affiliations involved in Mars' death.
Parent Edward Nicholson says first received message about the possible ban from a myspace blog that was given to him by his son.
He says the students should have the right to remember Mars.
"What we would like to see is this to turn out to be false. And we would like to see the entire community come out and never forget Bob Mars."
We talked with the school district and the school and they both agree with Nicholson.
But it's the letters that may be a line of concern.
"I would hope that anyone that would use Bob Mars' name would first contact the family and as a courtesy, let them know what they want to do," said Ron Castilleja, superintendent of the Kiona-Benton City School District.
The district maintains that students can wear clothing that bears Mars' name, and there is no officialy policy that states otherwise.
The district also says there was an incident in the fall in which a student was asked to take a head-band off that had Bob Mars' name on it.
But the district says there is a no hat, no headgear clothing policy, and that was the only reason the student was asked to take it off.
